Nowadays, consumers are very demanding when it comes to internet security and privacy.

This means that apps on your mobiles phones must have greater protection when validating access. SMS for apps is a great way of validating access to apps or when authorizing transactions, and any other processes.

What is SMS verification?

SMS verification is used by many applications, as either the first or second step in the security process. The user provides their telephone number, and after downloading the application, they are immediately sent an SMS message with a pin code. They then enter this code into the app to verify that they are the real owner and that data has not been tampered or misused.

Secure apps use this verification system to ensure that the user is real and is not providing false information. With this method you can validate individual users, send notifications and SMS campaigns. You can also identify users before they are able to utilize the app for bad intentions.

Two-step verification

Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security onto an account where there might be just one parameter, for example, a password. The user has to enter two pieces of information in order to confirm their identity. It is also possible to introduce a third parameter to increase security even further.

The advantages of using SMS for apps

SMS messages can be used to send notifications to users not only when they want to register for an application but also when they want to access the app from a different device.

The process involves sending an SMS containing a one-time password to the user’s mobile phone. This ensures protection of the user’s information, and that access to settings, the signing of documents and the confirmation of transactions is completed safely.

Another advantage is that you can use this SMS messages to increase your app’s downloads, by recommending certain actions to app users within SMS messages. You can also make downloads and installation easier by sending hyperlinks within SMS messages.

Potential problems with verification

Potential problems with this could occur if a user’s mobile phone has been stolen, which could allow a third party to complete illegal transactions.

However, for this exact reason, we advise using a stronger method of protection for apps alongside SMS for certain key pieces of information.

We hope that this post has been a great help in letting you know about a few of the advantages of using SMS for your mobile application.
